How To Make Wooden Sheds On A Limited Budget

By Bill Richardson

Don't have a lot of money to build a wooden shed for your backyard? No problem. The process for building wooden sheds is easy and worth the extra effort you put into it. Inexpensive wooden sheds are well within reach if you have a basic carpentry skill set.

Let's start with assessing your needs. Will your shed be used for storing your tools or riding mower? Or will you be using it as a backyard retreat that you'll furnish and decorate?

Another important consideration you will need to keep in mind will be the shed's size. Once you know what you will be using it for, it will be much easier to figure out the best size.

Next step, online research. A really good starting point is to look for images of wooden sheds. Get an idea of what will suit your needs by searching through the hundreds of photos available. Once you've picked out a few, you can now search for shed plans. A wide selection can be easily downloaded for an average price of around $5.00US. But there are a few that you can get free.

Wood pallets make a great option for material since we are talking about a limited budget. By using the boards from the pallets, complete sheds have been built. About $4.00US will get you a decent pallet. If you do some research, you should be able to find them free of charge. A lot of companies recycle their barely used pallets. I found a company that was happy to let me have as many as I needed. All I had to do was ask.

By using the wood from the pallets, you won't be able to use the shed plans precisely as they have drawn, but you will be able to use it as a guide for things like dimensions. The pallets can be used for everything from the foundation to the door.

Its feasible that all you may have to purchase for this project is the shingles (or whatever material you chose to cover your roof with), hardware and paint or stain.

With some basic carpentry skills and a little resourcefulness, your "new" wooden shed is just a weekend or two away. - 29857
