Honeysuckle - Beware Of The Planting

By Keith Markensen

Have you ever tried fall sowing flower seeds? It works wonderfully with all the hardy flowers and even with some of the hardy annuals such as larkspur, cornflower, nigella, calendula, and any of the others that normally self sow in your locality. And as I have said before, I like to sow my seeds in pots so I can handle them as individual units.

Three-inch plastic flower pots are plenty large enough for my place, but you may want a four-inch pot. I fill the pot half full with a mixture of soil, sand and peat sifted through a quarter-inch sieve. Then I put in an inch of equal parts sand and peat and sow my seeds in this. It's weed free and practically sterile and gives marvelous germination. I honestly never have bothered with treating the seeds with any disinfectant, it works so well this other way. Some of the perennials that you may want to order now to sow later this month (November) might include the cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis), delphinium, gaillardia, dwarf bleeding heart, and hardy candytuft.

Honeysuckles

The honeysuckles are an interesting group of plants. Of course everyone knows the common vine of the Japanese honeysuckle. But all too few are acquainted with the many bush honeysuckles. If you like birds and want a big, tall, fast-growing honeysuckle, plant an Amur honeysuckle (Lonicera Maackii). They get 20 to 25 feet high and at least as broad. We sat in the shade of ours the third summer. Just like our pygmy date palm in the garden.

It's tall, lanky, and has white flowers in the spring which drop as they turn yellow. In the mid fall the berries turn red. The cedar waxwings love them - so do the cardinals and any other seed eating bird that's around during the winter. The birds drop seeds here and there so you always have half a dozen or so seedlings to give away to friends and neighbors. For flowers you will probably want the red flowered Zabell honeysuckle.

For a fast growing bush with red berries in summer - the Morrow honeysuckle. Both of these get about six or seven feet high. The Morrow will spread out to ten or 12 feet and it's very fast growing. But practically all honeysuckles are big bushes that you would not want to plant in front of the house or even too close to a ranch type house. - 29857

Garden Quick Color

By Thomas Fryd

Dutch Iris are one of the most colorful of all fall-planted bulbs. They have been propagated heavily in Oregon and Washington for the Pacific Coast market. The flower is excellent for cutting and a generous crop may be expected. The colors include white, yellow, lavender, blue and purple. The plants are fairly hardy although they require some protection if planted in a windy spot. Plant in the open sun or semi-shade with the bulbs. 3 inches deep and 3 inches apart. Average garden soil will suffice and the bulbs should not be disturbed until the plants become so thick that the clumps need dividing.

Aftercare of Bulbs - Many - including gladiolus, tigridias and tuberous begonias - should be taken up now and stored for a good rest. Remember, the foliage should be thoroughly ripened before cutting off. Dust the bulbs with an insecticide to take care of any insect eggs present. Also, all bulbs and tubers should be dried off thoroughly before storing in peat. Guard against mice eating tigridias especially.

For quick color - In the mild sections of the West, snapdragons, stocks, annual chrysanthemums, larkspur, Iceland poppies, violas and pansies may still be set out, although the blooms will be later than on those set out last month. For shady spots, try cinerarias and primroses.

Wildflowers - Sow seeds after the first heavy rains. For dependable ground covers on bulb beds, sow linaria, brachycome, Gilia lutea (G. micrantha), nemophila, Virginia stock, Johnny-jump-up and other shallow-rooted annuals. These make colorful beds by themselves and are a boon both to the busy gardener pressed for time and the "lazy" gardener.

Winter pot plants - For the shaded patio use primrows, cinerarias, pansies, daffodils, browallias, reinwardtias, alocasia amazonica, beloperones, ericas, eranthemums, azaleas and camellias.

Pyracanthus and cotoneasters are the answer for time-pressed gardening enthusiasts who require colorful berries with a minimum of time spent on upkeep. Berried shrubs thrive here in the West. Although they can be planted at any season, this is a good time to select choice kinds at local nurseries, for now you can not only choose the ones with the best forms but also the proper colored berries. - 29857

Le Creuset Tea Kettle; The Perfect Kettle For All Kitchens

By Henry Jeon

Since'91 Le Creuset has been making steel pots and pans that are covered with enamel making them very durable and effective in the kitchen. They offer all products in a variety of sizes, styles and colors. The Le Creuset tea kettle boils water quickly and effectively and has many features regular tea kettles do not have.

Le Creuset products are made strong and durable. They are offered in several different models and come in a rainbow of colors that will match any kitchen. Le Creuset products are long wearing and efficiently heat water to boiling so that you can enjoy your tea or other hot beverages as quick as possible.

Kettles are made of long wearing stainless steel and then coated with a colored porcelain enamel. This coating provides a protective surface that will not allow the piece to rust. Some models have locking handles that make it much easier to pour and some have whistles to let you know when the water comes to a boil. All models are safe to use on any stove including an induction cook tops.

The water in a pot should not exceed the opening of the spout. If it does there is the chance that the kettle can be damaged as can the person using it from burns resulting in hot water escaping. None of the models should never be continuously heated until there is no more water in them. This is one of the most damaging things that can be done to the pot. Instructions say that the water left in the pot need to be emptied every time you use the kettle. This is so mineral deposits from tap water will not collect in the kettle causing efficiency to suffer. Try not to drop the kettle on a hard floor because the enamel may be chipped. It is advisable to hand wash with a mild dish washing soap. Any abrasive cleaner can scratch the kettle. Stains should be cleaned with a nylon mesh scrubbers.

Le Creuset products are available in all different fun colors and they run anywhere from $65 to $100. This may seem like a hefty price but they are not only stylish but they will last for years with the correct care.

A whistle will alert you to the fact the water is boiling in the one of the more popular modles. Even though steam may be rising from the whistling knob it will always be cool and never burn your fingers to raise it. The ergonomic handle allows anyone to pour easily and the kettle has a spout that will not drip preventing splattering of hot water. The colors are endless and it will hold about 2 quarts of water.

The model called Zen is just a bit smaller. It also has the spout that will not drip and the knob and whistle that will not burn if you touch it. It comes in different colors as well. The enamel finish will resist any odor retention or stains. This one can be washed in a dishwasher. It also has a very wide opening so that it is easy to clean. The lockable, 2 position handle is a great feature and allows even those with arthritis to be able to pour with ease.

It is important to wash the kettle before using it the first time. Le Creuset tea kettles should be effective and beautiful for many years to come if they are maintained with the right care. They will always look perfect and colorful from the day you purchased it. - 29857

Basil Herbs, Should Be a Permanent Resident in Everyone's Kitchen

By John Stills

Basil herbs is actually derived from a Greek word which means "King" (or basileus). Some origins of the word suggest that ancient Greeks and Romans associated the word and thus the herb as something malicious. Some myths concluded that one must yell and curse before any herb plants would grow from the seeds. While that was proven to be untrue, it's hard to deny that basil herbs are still a rather pungent spice, if not particularly angry.

In later times, basil came to represent love, and men in Italy would give women a sprig of basil as a romantic gesture. When it comes to cuisine, basil is usually identified with Mediterranean food, along with Italian and Thai specialties. However, did you know that this herb actually came from India? Yes, it was Vishnu and Krishna's own personal choice.

Growing Basil Plants

In some temperate regions, basil is often used as an annual and in tropical areas, it's sometimes grown as a perenial. Wherever it's growing, basil is quite sensitive to temperature and it grows better in warmer climates with lots of sunlight.

Basil prefers soil that does not hold the water too much along with premium quality compost or well 'matured' manure. It needs a constant supply of water along with good drainage. Basil will wilt quickly if it doesn't get enough light or it's positioned where it gets a breeze. Additionally. those looking after basil will need to add mulch to the soil to maintain it properly. The stems will need to be removed along with the flowers when it starts to get going.

It's not a shame, for the destruction of this pretty flower is what brings you basil, one of the tastiest herbs you can get a hold of. Gardeners should pick up the basil leaves before the plant starts flowering to experience the best flavor.

The Use of Basil

Basil herbs are not traditionally used as a homeopathic extract, its greatest resources are discovered in culinary use. However, basil does have certain antibacterial and antiviral properties. Basil is actually related to mint, and it has some value as a digestive aid, not to mention a smooth and comforting tea.

There are actually 60 known species of basil and many more we haven't discovered yet. Sweet basil is one of the most commonly used herbs for chefs, though lemon basil is just as popular for certain soups, beverages and deserts. Other notable types of basil include cinnamon, African blue (mainly used for aroma) and Opal basil.

Using herbs in cooking is best when they're cut fresh off the plant & having your own herb garden allows you to do this. Much of the basil found in shops has been harvested for quite some time & is nowhere near as fresh.

Just imagine the meals you could make with a fresh serving of real basil! - 29857

Your Water Heaters Need Some More Attention

By Scott Rodgers

A Storage tanker for water is one of the most important appliances for any household. Its functioning is something that keeps the entire house running and in action. Breakdown of a water heater can literally bring things to a standstill in any residential or commercial set up. Especially when you talk of colder regions, there is no way that you can do without hot water.

No doubt, water heating model is one of the most advantageous appliances to be used in winter season, it has some downsides as well. The quantity of water stored in the water tank is heated in one stretch. This seems to be the biggest disadvantage of the appliance as this wastes a lot of energy. Secondly, water heaters generally become a good place for microbes such as algae and bacteria to live in.

The intensity of the heating is not such that it can effectively kill the unwanted bacteria. Also, another problem plaguing is the inability of the normal water heater to heat more than 40 gallons of water at once.

Hot water is the most basic necessity especially to those who are residing in colder regions. Other than bathing and washing purposes, car washing and window pane washing are some other areas of its application.

You don't require this heating model every next second. Instead, it is used at some specific times. But, your appliance don't know this and keeps on heating the water wasting both the energy and water.

Water heaters are generally placed at places that are not accessible to view. Homeowners should take intensive care that your heater is not leaking and is perfectly fine. For, leaky heaters demand repair and restoration.

Water heaters sometimes get exploded thereby causing a lot of damage and injury. For that a temperature and pressure relief safety device should be fitted in the water heater. Scalding is another serious concern with any water heater. Human skin is very sensitive to temperature. Hence proper care should be taken for that.

Go for hiring a plumber to install the device at your place as these require very efficient knowledge. Wrong way of installing may cause greater risks. - 29857

Using Garden Paving To Enhance Your Landscaping

By Craig Johnson

Perhaps you have the most attractive and well-designed landscape on your block. You may even spend hours fertilizing, watering, and planting beautiful flowers and shrubs. One element that can help you enjoy your well kept lawn is a garden path. This is a great addition to any lawn and something that will especially enhance a large yard area. If you love to have visitors over and show off your landscaping and gardens, a garden path will keep you from trampling over grass or getting your shoes dirty or wet. Garden paving is a project that you can tailor to your interests and desires and make it as big or as small, intricate in detail or simple as you wish.

You can choose from a variety of different material to create your garden path. More permanent materials include: concrete, stone, brick, slate, and flagstone. If you want to save money, you can use a mold to create your own concrete stones.

When choosing material, it will be important to note whether or not this will be a permanent garden path for your yard. If you plan on moving it at any point, flagstone will not be a good choice. It is extremely heavy and does not relocate well. Any other materials can be moved, although some are easier to do so than others.

If you want a semi-permanent material, one that will last but yet can be moved if necessary, stepping stones are probably the best choice for you. These are easy to move and easy to place. You can choose to place the stones close together or space them apart. You can use sand or another material to keep greenery from growing around the stones, or for a more natural cottage path look, you can encourage the growth of little vines and flowers.

If you need a very temporary material for your garden path, you could choose wood chips, gravel, stone, shredded bark, or wood blocks. This investment will be cheaper than rock or concrete, but take into account that accordingly it will not last as long.

Materials such as bark or woods chips will need to be replaced yearly and kept up with to ensure that it looks good. They will decompose after some time. If you choose one of these options, you will also need to purchase and install an edging to keep them in place. Otherwise you may end up with a garden path that has flooded all over your well kept lawn!

As you choose a material for your garden path, also keep in mind what colors you want to tend toward. The selection you make should blend in with its surroundings and compliment your home. Many materials can be installed with detailed patterns and shapes for a more elegant look. You can do some research of your own to come up with some inspiration. Drive around other homes in your area and get ideas from what others have done. Go to the library and read through the gardening section. Use the Internet as a tool to find some new ideas. There are many sources to get this kind of information.

Garden paving will enhance your lawn and bring your garden to life when properly done. Get the advice of a local contractor if you have questions; they should be happy to assist. They may also be able to recommend other special design ideas if you want to invest a little more in it than merely a garden path. - 29857

Garden Walling Offers Privacy And Security

By Matthew Kerridge

Garden walling serves a number of purposes. Perhaps the most common is a desire for privacy. If you live in an area where the houses are positioned close to one another, you will surely feel exposed. It's great to have a good relationship with your neighbor, but a garden wall will give you the feeling that you've got some distance between you.

Garden walls can be constructed from many materials. You can decide how big or small you would like your garden wall to be. Choose a wall that will also add a decorative element to your garden. You don't want to choose something that's going to make your home look like Alcatraz!

Garden walls made with rocks are practical and eye-catching. You can use scavenged rocks that can be bought very cheaply. A rock wall will bring a natural tone to your garden. Building a rock wall is quite easy, so you may want to do it yourself. Just remember that the big rocks should be laid at the base of the wall.

Rock walls will stand firm for many years. Not even the most severe weather will affect them adversely. There's no need to paint or seal a rock wall - this makes it absolutely maintenance free. If you doubt the strength of a rock wall, just look at some old properties and you'll see rock walls looking as good as new.

Another attractive form of garden walling is brick. A brick wall is constructed in much the same way as a rock garden wall. Brick has an advantage however in that you will have a much wider choice of decoration. If you're planning to put a brick wall right around your property, rather get a walling contractor to do the job.

There are certain regulations concerning the erection of brick walls. Your local authority will have to approve plans before giving consent. The foundations should be very solid and brick walls need to be damp-proofed. If this is not done correctly it won't be long before your wall looks ugly.

If you want garden walling to give you privacy, then the ideal choice is a prefabricated concrete wall. These are delivered in ready-made slabs which are erected easily and quickly. Because of this, this type of walling is inexpensive. And your privacy will be guaranteed.

Hedging is another form of garden walling. A sturdy boundary hedge is lovely to look at, as well as being practical. The only problem with a hedge is that you're going to have a long wait while it grows! Be certain to plant a species of hedge that is evergreen to prevent it looking sparse and drab during winter.

Once your hedge has gained some substance you will need to maintain it properly. This will increase its strength and keep it looking neat and tidy. Water the hedge regularly. A healthy, strong hedge also offers protection against criminals. You will be surprised to know how difficult it is to break through a boundary hedge.

Whatever material you choose for garden walling, you can add some beauty by planting small bushes or flowers inside your garden at the base of the wall. You can even do this outside so that people can admire your wall and your lovely home. Your new wall will provide you with peace of mind and privacy. - 29857

Landscape Problem Solvers - Vines

By Thomas Fryd

From a kerchief-sized city back yard to the rolling hills of a magnificent country estate, there is hardly a garden or landscape where vines can't be used to give the scene graceful beauty and vitality. And few other plants serve so many practical purposes as well.

Vines have character and individuality. Some are modest, and attract attention to the patterned texture of a wall rather than to themselves. Some are bold and brilliant, and command the eye. All give a fluid impression of movement no other plant form provides.

Vines are adaptable, versatile, can be trained to almost any shape or line, formal or informal, horizontal or vertical, sweeping or restrained. A controllable line is one of the landscape architect's most potent tools.

And vines have variety in size, shape, color, contour, texture. There are fast- and slow-growing, deciduous and evergreen, annual and perennial vines. Some feature foliage, flowers, or colorful fall and winter fruit; some paragons provide all three.

Practically speaking, vines can do more for a garden, yet require less space and less care, than most people realize. They are generally strong-rooted, prefer not to be pampered, are subject to relatively few diseases. They occupy a small area, yet their tops are arranged to get full benefit of all available light and sunlight.

Name your landscaping problem, there is surely a vine to help solve it. Limited space for flower beds? A clematis or climbing rose will give tremendous flowering display for small root space. Train one, or both together, on a pillar for dramatic accent. Your garden doesn't hang together? Use vines to make a smooth transition from one area or level to another, to help create harmony and unity.

House looks too high? A vine or a flowering vine will pull it down, anchor it to the ground. House too low and broad? A vertical vine will make it look higher. House plain, lacks style? Vines break and soften sharp lines, create ornamental patterns. House too ornate? Vines hide or correct errors and abuses.

When the bulldozer leaves bare grounds, vines make shade faster than trees, flower faster than herbaceous perennials. Where there's a clutter of small, unrelated buildings, vines will tie them together. When you want privacy for an outdoor living area, vines make a screen without eliminating light. - 29857

A Unique Approach To Pond Building: The Wildlife Pond

By Michael Wezsky

Pond building is a difficult but rewarding task that has found a place in the hearts of many home gardeners. There is a unique joy that can only be found when creating and cultivating a balanced ecosystem of plants and aquatic life in the comfort of your own backyard.

Most home pond builders build clinical ponds. They just have a ditch filled with water, add in some plants, fish and a pump for good measure. It's clean and safe, but if you think about it, it's nothing more than a fish-inhabited swimming pool. Although there are many water garden enthusiasts, few ever want to make more than a simple, manageable backyard pond.

But on rare occasions, you'll find a true pond building devotee who'll settle for nothing less than a wildlife pond.

The Life of a Wildlife Pond

What makes a pond a true wildlife pond? The keyword is life! It is like a natural living thing, an ecosystem capable of keeping itself alive for years. Even the water is full of life.Unlike the clean and clear filtered water of a clinical pond, the water of a wild life pond is "dirty" yet nutrient rich water. Shortly after you finish it, your wildlife pond will transform your backyard into your own personal bog.

A successful wildlife pond plays host to a surprisingly large array of life. And not just plants and fish, but also insects, lizards, frogs and birds. Better yet, they are all within your control. As long as you pay attention to the details you'll have a pond full of free living, yet carefully controlled "pets".

Sloped banks, natural rock edging and proper light-exposure; these are all important elements in bond building, but for a wildlife pond it just isn't enough! It's what you put into your pond that allows it to achieve ecological balance.

So what do you do? Go out and find a naturally occurring pond. Get some of the water and put it into your own home pond. Using that rich natural pond water is the key to making a successful wildlife pond.

The Wildlife in your Backyard

So what exactly grows in a wildlife pond? The first members of your pond community will usually be bugs. Drawn by the rich water, dragonflies and other insects will soon find their way into your pond.

Worried about the insects bothering your house and home?

There's no denying that insects will probably be bothersome for a while. You can add a few snails into the pond where they will keep the water clean of pests. It helps, but it's hardly a pest control solution.

By the time you start to be pestered by mosquitoes and flies, you'll start seeing a new type of life; amphibians. Newts, frogs and toads will start moving in, attracted by the buffet of bugs and pug eggs in your pond. They are nature's pest control team, keeping the insect population to a tolerable minimum. Birds are also likely to fly in for a quick bug snack. You might even see bigger birds, maybe a heron, preying on the fish and frogs.

Many water gardeners aren't at all interested in a wildlife pond. Compared to a common pond, the wildlife pond may seem like a lot of hassle. But still, give it some thought knowing that a wildlife pond is a rich and harmonious ecosystem that breathes new life into your backyard. - 29857

Some Of The Benefits Of Garden Walling

By Matthew Kerridge

Garden walling and the benefits are easily seen with the naked eye. They bring an air of majesty to a garden. They can also provide a certain amount of protection for what you have growing in your garden. It keeps people from walking directly into the garden, and many animals will simply go around if confronted by a wall.

But outside the protective benefits, are the beauty and elegance that garden walling can bring. It evokes a kind of mystery and produces a whole new atmosphere from an open garden. Garden walling is an artistic endeavor that can really add to the look and feel of your garden area. Whether you hire professionals, and choose to do your own work, it can really make a huge difference that all can easily see.

Professionals who build these types of brick walls have gained the experience from training and doing that you just don't get overnight. An amateur will more than likely run into more problems than they ever realized. It really depends on how technical your wall will be, what it's made of, and just what kind of outcome you're looking for.

When you decide to take on the task of garden walling, you need to make some important decisions up-front. You'll need to decide how to fit it into the rest of your landscape layout, and what materials you'll have it built from. Then how high and how wide are decisions that need making. Then you get into color and shape and all the other artistic considerations. It's not as simple as it seems at first glance.

We've all been driving along past these farms and homes with garden walls, and seen that many of them are pretty uneven. But they still look good because the unevenness is maintained throughout the length of the wall. This look can be done intentionally. It only looks bad if the uneven places are irregular. Uniformity rules the wall. It still can have a sense of order and neatness, even with uneven spots throughout.

Garden walling can be one of the most favorite improvements you make to your home landscape. And as far as the garden ground goes, it gives the ground a way to level itself. It can push up against the wall when softened by the rain, and form a more level area of ground. The wall will help to hold it level once it begins to settle.

The amount of options for building a wall around your garden is part of what makes it so much fun. It's not hard to come up with a wall that's totally unique. You can put your own 'stamp' on your wall by making it the way you see it in your mind. You can combine whatever materials you desire, and you can use shape and color to make it stand alone as 'your garden wall'.

Some of the benefits of garden walling are that they not only improve the looks, but the overall function of your garden. By keeping a more level ground, the water gets distributed more evenly, as well as the food for your garden plants, whether it's a vegetable garden or just a walking garden. These walls really add to the artistry of a good landscaping job, and are assets to your home. - 29857

Good Choices For The First Time Holiday Lights Owner

By Cody Scholberg

A guide for first year decorating

Last year was a particular busy one for you and doing outdoor light decorating just wasn't in the cards then. But now, you feel this year is the one to join in a little holiday joy and display it on your property. If you need some advice, there is no end to the professionals in the lighting profession who will be delighted to get you started in the right direct. They can get you set up with everything you'll need, from extension cords to the actual lights you decide on.

For small homes, a lot of lighting is not required to make your home festive and colorful for the holidays. Too much can even look a little crowded or messy. Your goal is to make your home attractive and cheerful, not gaudy or tacky. Probably your first year you will want to be conservative both in price and amount of lighting. Just a simple spotlight directed toward the beautiful wreath on your front door can be very pretty. Of, if you prefer, wreaths can be purchased with lights attached to them.

Ideas for your first Outdoor Lighting project

If you want a particularly nice focal point, place a small decorated tree on your front stoop or porch. Place colored or clear white lights on the tree for instant "holiday". The most energy efficient lights are the LED bulbs or try some of the rope lights if you'd like to wrap them around porch columns. They are equally energy saving lights.

You will probably want to have a lighted Santa Claus in your front yard for their enjoyment, or perhaps a Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Small children get so excited over this sign that Christmas is arriving soon. And, as they come on again each evening, the little squeals of delight continue. A lot of people agree that "Christmas" is for children. When it comes to Santa Claus it certainly is.

Get the supplies you need on that same trip to the store

One almost essential item is a timer that will turn your lights on at dusk and off at the specified hour that you choose. There is a little extra security included with this technique. No one will know you are not home since the lights go on and off even when you're away. A timer is not recommended for the inside of the home, however, due to the possibility of fire. Be sure that any lights or equipment that you purchase is UL approved.

One good thing about the second year you decorate, all you need to do is gather everything from the year before and you'll know exactly where to begin. And especially with children, you won't forget to decorate; they're sure to ask you about it early on. Have fun with them! - 29857

New Storage Shed Kits

By Keith Frazier

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about storage shed kits. When you start sharing the fascinating facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

Choosing the right size storage shed is very important. The size and styles of sheds are limited only by the room available and imagination. Choose a flat, clear, and easily accessible location, but also look for opportunities for the surrounding foliage or structures to add to the aesthetic appeal of your property.

Building your own shed offers more options. A great variety of plans are available to choose from, some of which are free; more experienced builders can also design custom sheds. Building a storage shed on your own requires some woodworking skills. But if you are like most people and lack some of the basic skills required to build your own storage shed, don't panic!

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole story on garden storage sheds from informed sources.

Wood offers the strength to withstand gusty winds and the weight of snow. This makes our wooden sheds an optimal choice for those living in areas subject to such weather conditions. Wood is the preferred material as it gives an aesthetic appeal. However wood needs to be treated for ultraviolet protection every year and sometimes treatment is also given for protection against pests and borers.

Vinyl storage sheds arrive at your doorstep ready to assemble quickly and easily. Vinyl siding requires little maintenance and can be matched to the siding of your home, but it dents easily. Cedar siding is a more expensive choice, but cedar wood is resistant to rot and insects.

Consider the grade and accessibility of the location. A level site is the starting point for all shed construction. The greater the grade, the more work needs to be done. Consider taking all the things you plan storing in the shed and haul them into a square on the lawn; then use the dimensions of that square for selecting a plan [source: Carter ]. Bear in mind the equipment you may own in the future.

As your knowledge about storage shed kits continues to grow, you will begin to see how garden storage fits into the overall scheme of things. Knowing how something like garden storage sheds relate to the rest of the world is important too. - 29857

How Deep Well Jet Pump Will Be Installed?

By Scott Rodgers

Deep well jet pump which plays a big part in now-a-days market is basically one of the forms of well pump. The cheapest residential well pump till now is the standard shallow well jet pump. It can only pull water from below the ground not exceeding 25 feet. While the heavy duty submersible water pumps can pull water as low as 400 feet from below the ground, but these are quiet costly and are mostly used for commercial purposes rather than home.

These deep well jet pumps are installed in the middle, and have the capacity of pulling water of more than 1000 feet under the ground. The installation cost is a bit higher then the shallow well jet pumps.

Your deep well needs water and you need to find the right pump for the job. Buying a deep well jet pump could very well provide an answer to your problem, but you must know what to look for before settling on your purchase.

Take a count on your water usage. Depending on the requirements, there are pumps available that generate 100 to 1,000 gallons of water in an hour, relying on the pressure required. The pressure regulators are set at 30 to 60 PST in most houses.

Consider getting a jet pump with in integrated storage tank. If you are setting up a new system or replacing a tank with a bad bladder, it is usually more cost effective to get the tank and jet pump together.

Have a proper check to the lines which are already existed. All you have to do is that you have to adjust the well casing, discharge lines and suction lines to make sure that there is maximum output of the deep well jet pump that you chosen for yourself. Also check the durability when you are planning to buy a deep well jet pump. Look for the companies that prepare cast iron pumps built with corrosion resistant coatings so that it can last for a long time.

Usually the deep well jet pumps are for the wells which have a pumping size lift of 22 to 120 feet. Normally a deep well jet pump follows two kinds of principles of pumping. One is the centrifugal pump and the other is an injector.

Deep well jet pumps can be balanced from the well, can be easily modified to wells of various length and breadth, are free from any trouble if the pump is properly selected, installed, and adjusted, it can also be balanced in uneven surface and are not very expensive. - 29857

Looking At Those Advantages Of Solar Energy And Why Your Family Should Use It

By Steve Schafer

Advantages of solar energy over the most used fuel resource - oil. Well there are many of them, but the biggest one will be how much better it is for the environment. So read on and find out what other reasons there are for you to consider changing to solar energy.

Still, there are more reasons why you should check into this power source for your use. It's a source that is renewable, meaning that as long as the sun continues to be around, you will always be able to get it. Though during nights and cloudy days you may run into problems!

However, oil is not something that is quickly renewable. In fact it takes millions of years for it to be produced in the first place. So as each day goes by and the oil is pumped from that location it's not renewing itself for a long amount of time. The reserves that are currently going down are not going to last for another million years giving that oil time to produce again.

With solar energy you will not be adding in pollution to the air. While on the other hand when you burn that oil for use it will create greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide that is released into the air. We all know the problems that are created by those gases. Plus the problems that arise when an oil spill happens it's extremely damaging.

Those solar cells that you need to use to get solar energy, they take very little time for maintenance, and they last a long time. At first you may have a bit of a cost by getting the solar panels together and the accessories needed. But it's a cost that will only happen one time. After that you will be making money, because it won't cost you anything to collect the sun, while the price of oil seems to be going up all the time.

Oil prices rise all the time and we are left at the whim of the government at times and end up paying tons of money. Solar energy will cost you that one investment and after that nothing. It's a very simple and easy process to get set up.

Look into those ways that you can make your own solar panels to save money. Plus keep in mind that switching a little at first and saving money will help you cover the cost of changing over your whole house eventually.

As you save on those bills you will be able to save up and switch over your full home to the use of solar power. - 29857

How Cyclic Electrical Testing Helps You ?

By Scott Rodgers

For business organizations and corporates, electrical testing is very important to ensure long life of electronic gadgets and for safety purpose of a lot number of people working there. There is no difference between a house and an office when it comes to electrical testing because if ignored, the result could be fatal. Hence it is advised to go for electrical testing at regular intervals.

It could better be explained with a help of an example, consider a serious accident happens in your company due to any electrical disorder. What will happen then?

It may lead to a huge loss of people and money, the company will have to suffer a lot and at a later stage you may get to know that the reason was so small that its repair would have cost nothing to you. Then you will surely regret and will ask yourself, why didn't I call an electrician before?

But now you can't go in past and change the things so, look ahead and find a solution for it. You will probably go to a insurance company to give you compensation for this, but the things are not so easy. They will demand for electrical survey details.

That's Surprising! It could be your expression after hearing this, because you never cared for it earlier. But then you will realize its importance because a insurance company will not help until you give them the correct report which is prepared by a eligible electrician.

Testing means testing of each and every device because you can never predict when an electrical device is going to fail or explode. We often come across news like a female got injured because of water heater explosion and many more, so prefer proper inspection instead of doing the formality.

To implement this, you need to consult a testing company that is highly efficient and have good market value because it is not a matter where you will check your pocket but it is about your own safety. Search via Internet, a company that has got good ratings for its work and do proper background checks before finalizing it. After all life is above all other things.

To summarize, go for regular electrical testing and add years to everyone's life by investing in a good testing company. - 29857

Top Foliage Plants Growing Tips

By Thomas Fryd

Shady locations pose special problems when it comes to furnishing them with plants - problems that are challenging, but surmountable; problems that for happy solutions depend upon the selection of suitable kinds of plants.

Around the home, on porches, patios and terraces and in sunrooms and window gardens there, are likely to be places where light is comparatively poor, but such places really need decorative vegetation to provide a homelike, lived-in atmosphere. Wisely chosen plants provide the answer for successful decoration of such problem spots.

Here, we will take a look into the uses of foliage plants in and about the home, for they offer by far the largest selection of kinds that prefer or endure shade. And, best of all, the kinds will look right in shaded places - they are plants. that belong where light is subdued.

One of the subtleties of successful gardening is to employ plants and flowers where they seem to belong. Shaded places kept aglow with blooming plants call for constant replacements, and that means over-decoration. It is a happier solution to use plants that thrive in shade.

In most of the locations we are considering, the plants will be grown in pots or tubs or in movable or built-in boxes of one kind or another that currently are called "planters." Such container-grown specimens require adequate cultural care - attention in matters of watering, fertilizing and keeping them clean and free of grime and pests. In recent years the advantageous employment of artificial illumination for foliage house plants has received attention from experimenters, and positive recommendations may now be made with confidence.

Artificial lighting is of great help in compensating for lack of sufficient daylight. Foliage plants that are tolerant of poor light have been kept in good condition for a year or more by the use of electric light alone or of electric light with but the smallest amount of natural light.

Fluorescent light, or fluorescent light together with some incandescent illumination, is most satisfactory. Incandescent light alone, in adequate intensities, produces too much heat for the well-being of the plants.

Fluorescent light alone, on the other hand, tends to give a cold appearance that is less flattering to foliage plants than when used with some of the yellower rays of incandescent bulbs. This is something to consider if you are concerned with specially lighted displays of foliage plants in homes, stores, restaurants, offices or theaters. In the average home you will be more interested in making the best of the lights you already have.

The thing to remember is that any type of lighting like low voltage landscape lighting (other than ultraviolet ray lamps) benefits foliage plants that lack sufficient natural daylight. The more intense the light (provided a harmful amount of heat is not produced) and the more hours each day the plants are submitted to light the better they will be.

Experiments at Rutgers University established the fact that some foliage plants would remain in good condition for twelve months or more if they received as little as 25 foot-candles of light for sixteen hours each day. It should be noted, however, that the kinds that lived under these low intensities grew better and lived longer when the intensity of the illumination was increased to 50 foot-candles for sixteen hours each day. Also, additional kinds could be grown under these conditions. Still further improvement was noted and a still greater variety could be grown when the light intensity was held at 100 foot-candles sixteen hours each day.

In the average home, only rarely will artificial illumination equal these higher intensities. Recommended levels for reading are 20 foot-candles and for sewing or workbench illumination 40 foot-candles. The advantage you can gain from ordinary home lighting is the placing near lights at night of those plants that get no more than the minimum illumination for their kind from natural daylight. The combination of low-intensity artificial lighting at night and minimum or somewhat better than minimum light intensity during the day. will combine to produce the effect of stronger daylight or longer days. - 29857

Vines As Garden Accents

By Thomas Fryd

Walls and fences of all dimensions are erected for any of many reasons - to define property boundaries, to create a center of privacy, to connect two areas or levels, even to break up small areas and make gardens seem larger. Fences can be used in place of trees and shrubs as background for a flower border, with spectacular vines as accent or subdued varieties for subordinate effect. And, of course, there's nothing like a good-looking fence or wall to obscure unattractive outbuildings, or necessary atrocities like the compost heap.

For fences and walls, again, vines are selected according to available sunlight, moisture, and other cultural considerations - and then according to decorative purpose. If the fence is in itself decorative, the vine should enhance, not smother it. Avoid rampant-growing types and choose, instead, restrained vines with delicacy and charm, and those that can be pruned and trained to shape. For ugly or tottering fences, select a fast, thick covering vine.

On low dividing or retaining walls, let the vine run along the top and tumble down the side - a climbing rose kept trimmed to one cane is extremely effective. Or select a slow creeper, like euonymous, and let it climb the side. Over old country stone walls, native vines - like the native clematis - are in harmony. A brick wall enclosing a formal garden calls for treillage. On small areas, use short-stemmed vines; for large areas, plant long-stemmed scramblers.

Vines as Ground Covers

Many vining or trailing plants will cover banks and keep soil from washing away; or will spread and carpet the ground in shady and other difficult areas. And vines are often the least costly and fastest growing plants for these purposes. But they should be used with caution and kept under control. Some types become serious garden pests. Most efficient for fixing sliding soil and covering steep or rocky banks are the varieties that hug closest to the ground and root at the leaf joints as they spread. Some annual vines can be used as ground covers for quick but temporary effect.

Vines as Garden Accents

These vines are selected for their specimen value - their brilliant, breath-taking flower display, even if only once a year. They are grown on pillars or other uprights in the border, or carefully trained against a background fence or wall.

Accents attract attention to the garden area and to themselves. They should be used sparingly and with regard for their fitness in their surroundings. Selected and placed without plan and design, they can be monstrosities. One accent vine - or two at the most - is plenty for a small or informal garden. A row of pillars can be used in larger, formal landscapes.

Pillars and posts should be in pleasing scale with their surroundings and the vines that cover them. Nonvigorous vines are most appropriate and easiest to control. There are climbing roses, for example, of restrained or "pillar" height; large-flowering clematis and mandevilla trellis plant can be combined with them to prolong the flowering season.

Properly placed and proportioned tree trunks can also be decorated with accent vines. On living trees, however, twiners may circle and strangle branches. Root-clingers are usually harmless and add interest to tall, unbranched trunks. If it has not been treated with creosote, an unsightly telephone pole becomes less offensive with a softening vine.

The majority of garden vines can be used as accent or specimen, if the selection is made with discretion and if careful attention is given to training and pruning. - 29857

Brackets, Stands, and Cabinets for LCD Televisions and Plasma TVs

By Mike Lamb

There has been quite an insurgence in the popularity of LCD and plasma TVs. Many people have been left with the dilemma of how to display their new LCD or plasma television. Since LCD and plasma TVs have gotten so popular, manufacturers have made several types of display items that help your new TV look great and stay protected.

If you have an LCD or plasma TV, you should consider purchasing TV wall mounting brackets to display your television on. TV wall mounting brackets come in different styles, price ranges, and difficulty levels of installation. The three main types of wall mounting brackets are low-profile wall mounting brackets, tilting wall mounting brackets, and full-motion wall mounting brackets.

If you are on a limited budget, and you're happy with a permanent mounting for your TV, then low-profile wall mounting brackets may be the right type of TV wall mounting brackets for you. They are considered to be fairly simple to install. If you can hang a picture on a wall, then you're on your way to being able to install low-profile brackets.

Tilting wall mount brackets are like low-profile TV wall mount brackets except for the fact that tilting wall mount brackets are adjustable in a side to side motion to make them easy to view from different positions. These brackets are in the moderately priced range. The difficulty of putting tilting wall mount brackets on the wall is comparable to the difficulty level of the full-motion wall mount brackets.

The full-motion wall mount brackets are in the higher price range when it comes to TV wall mounting brackets. They are convenient because they swivel in a full circular range. This makes it possible to adjust the TV and view it from any position. When installing full-motion wall mount brackets, you may need some help due to the high level of difficulty involved in installing these types of TV wall brackets.

There are TV stands that are made especially for LCD and plasma TVs. Some have mounting bars on the back of them, and some are made to fit a flat panel TV on them securely. You can find these stands in different materials. The mounted types of stands are usually made of metal. You can find a TV stand made partly of metal, and partly of wood. There's even a stylish looking TV stand made of glass and metal.

You may enjoy watching your LCD or plasma TV, but you don't like the distraction they cause in your style scheme of your living area. If this is an issue for you, you may want to consider getting a TV cabinet for your television. A TV cabinet would close your TV into it and hide it when you aren't in need of it. Then you can open it up to enjoy a night of TV when you're ready to. This will help to take the focus off of your television.

With all the different items available today to put your plasma or LCD television on, you can make your new TV blend seamlessly into your living area without allowing it to become a chunky eyesore. - 29857

Tips For Raised Bed Gardening Soil And Plants

By Graham Doherty

When you're through with building a garden bed, be sure to congratulate yourself because now that your garden is set in place you can start raised bed gardening. It may be a bit empty now, but through this article you can begin the fun part.

Use the proper soil, water properly and maintain your plants and keep them healthy, and you'll have a beautiful yard, with your raised bed gardening as a delightful focal point.

The pH Levels Of Your Soil

Obviously, your first task is to level your raised bed garden with some quality soil. One great combination is to use a mixture of one quarter yard soil and three quarters of sand and compost. This should provide a great starting point in your garden. Test your soil's pH levels too. If the alkaline is overkill, nothing will end up growing.

Weed Killing

The structure of your raised bed should make weeds a minor annoyance, but sometimes bad luck will strike. Put mulch of an organic sort over the top of your bed. This can help cut down on weeds drastically, without introducing potentially harmful chemicals.

If that doesn't work, try products for weed guarding to make sure those pesky weeds stay away. If this still doesn't stop them, don't worry too much. They're simple to get rid of, and remember gardening is ongoing work. There are going to be setbacks occasionally.

Reasonable Watering

Overdoing the water is just as harmful as starving your plants, because long periods of wetness can help promote disease and general bad health in your garden. Do your watering by hand, keeping the water on the areas in which the plants are buried, but not straying to the surrounding areas.

If you'd rather not bore yourself, buy an advanced irrigation system with drip technology to keep water even and of a good quantity - and of course in autopilot while you sleep.

Take Care Of Your Raised Bed

Though raised bed gardening actually requires little maintenance, there are still things you have to stay on top of as a gardener. First, obviously you need to water your plants as necessary, being careful not to overdo it. Next, try turning the soil over periodically, adding in new organic matter as you go.

In the event that disease gets a foothold in your garden, empty the bed and replace the soil with all new soil/compost/sand mixture and reseat your plants. It's also important to keep an eye on your garden and make sure it's not tipping over time.

Raised bed gardening is a simple form of gardening that allows people with little or no experience to indulge themselves in a beautiful accessory for their lawn that will attract attention for years.

By following the tips above, you'll keep your garden beautiful and secure -- for the plants and you, as the owner. - 29857

Indoor Flowering Plants ? Three Great Reasons Why They Are A Gift For Any Occasion

By John Jay Amarant

Loads of nice-looking plants can be kept inside the whole year. So what is the rationale for us purchasing so many cut flowers? The rose is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic flowers in the world and yet we cut them down by the millions, particularly about Valentines day. Numerous shops nowadays offer a large assortment of tiny roses which can be kept inside the entire year and will even bloom a couple of times a year. There is always the orchid.

These have countless varieties and occasionally they can be problematic to keep, but various are easier to look after and these are simply obtained.Usually they will need little water and a lot of not direct sunlight. So with some of the most wonderful flowers available to keep at home why are we not actually utilizing them? Below are three reasons why indoor flowering plants make a better present than a bouquet of flowers.

Beneath there are 3 good points why indoor flowering plants will make a longer lasting and better gift than a bouquet of flowers.

1.This is a present that will be about a lot longer - Even though we do not want to give unneccesary clutter to our acquaintances, a flowering house plant will brighten up a window or a table for far longer than a bouquet of flowers.

2. When you give a bunch of flowers they are usually wrapped in paper and plastic, thus creating more environmental trash. Even if the plant dies, the pot can be used again and again.

3.Educating the next generation? we are constantly trying to teach our children to respect the earth they live in, isn?t showing how simple it is to grow house plants a great instance of the rewards of care and attention to detail?

As a final point, it is a great habit for children to begin. As soon as I knew that we were going to move last time, my four year old planted some seeds, which had sprouted by the time we left, to give away to his friends as a going away gift. Far more pleasing than giving another plastic toy. - 29857

Build An Outdoor Pond In Just One Day

By Michael Wezsky

Before you start your own backyard pond, it's best to get used to building one first. Don't worry if it sounds difficult - this outline will have you building and finishing a pond in just one day.

That's right. One day.

Why build a starter pond?

People who build their first pond usually haven't a clue as to how to go about it. They don't know what tools to buy, what size they're going to pond and what equipment they'll need to install. A starter pond walks you through the basics, allowing you to get accustomed to the needs and requirements of pond building.

Now, the idea of the starter pond is that you should keep things small. As Mel Gibson said in The Patriot, "Aim small, miss small." If you limit the size of the pond, you also limit the things that could go wrong. With that in mind, you'll be able to judge just how big your starter pond should be.

Getting Ready

You'll need to prepare some tools and equipment for your starter pond. It may not be as complicated as some other construction projects, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take it seriously. There are some tools and implements that you absolutely must have to successfully accomplish this project.

First of all, you're going to have to excavate your pond. You'll need some sturdy digging tools and maybe a few friends to help. If you're planning to use a pre-made shell for your pond, make sure that you dig a hole to match the shell's proportions.

Pond liner is a great alternative to pre-made shells. Canvas is usually sufficient for a starter pond. But if you like, go out and browse through the different types of liners available in stores.

The next thing you need is a garden hose or spray paint. What for? For marking your pond location of course! Before you start digging, use the hose or paint to outline where your pond will be.

Pond water gets dirty and unless you want to clean it yourself, you'll need to install a water pump and filter in your pond. Keep in mind that these are electrical; you should put up a power source nearby. Choose a spot that's hidden or easily camouflaged so that your equipment blends into your pond's aesthetics.

The Starter Pond Building Procedure

This is an outline of the pond building process:

1. Make a pond plan.

2. Mark your pond's shape with a garden hose or spray paint.

3. Dig the desired depth and shape of your pond.

4. Put in the pre-made pond shell or pond liner.

5. Install the pump, filter and tubes that will cycle your pond's water.

6. Fill up the pond with water from the tap.

7. Activate the filtration system by plugging it into a nearby power source.

And with that you've successfully built your starter pond! If you like, you can treat it just like a full-blown pond by adding plants and fish. Just make sure that you're ready to handle them. While the pond may be small and a bit plain looking, the experience will undoubtedly help when it's time for your real pond building project. - 29857

A Planting Time For October And Evergreens

By Thomas Fryd

October brings a change in the air and things to do outdoors in the landscape or garden. Here are a few quick reminders that will payoff when the Spring shows up.

Continue to Plant Evergreens

Transplant evergreens in deep, rich soil, mixing peat moss, well-rotted manure or compost to retain moisture and encourage strong root growth. Select upright yews for accent in the foundation planting and box-leaf holly or Japanese pieris for foliage contrast. Viburnums, azaleas and rhododendrons are excellent subjects under oaks and high branching trees.

Fall Planting of Roses

Plant roses in well prepared soil that is rich in organic matter. If they cannot be planted immediately upon arrival, heel in a foot deep trench by placing them at a 45 angle and working soil around roots before covering them completely. If plants come too late and cannot be planted, they may be kept in a trench all winter. Cut back rose canes to 12-15 inches and for winter protection, mound earth 7-8 inches around the stems just before the ground freezes.

Consider the Lawn

Continue mowing lawn 1 1/2 inches to two inches high as long as it grows. Rake leaves and put on compost pile, otherwise they will mat and harbor diseases. Dig out weeds like crab-grass, plaintain and dandelions and re-seed bare spots. During dry periods, water newly sown lawns so that the roots will become well established before cold weather.

Caring for Trees

Guy newly planted trees or foxtail palm and brace or cable those with weak crotches and limbs to prevent winter injury from snow and winter winds. Near the first branches, stretch and tightly fasten guy wires to stakes, four to five feet from the tree trunk, and drive firmly into the ground. Guy wires should remain tightly fastened to newly planted trees during the first two years to allow trees to become fully established.

Plants for Fall Color

Visit gardens and public parks to study plants with very brilliant autumn coloring. Trees that turn a brilliant red are the black tupelo or nyssa, red maple, oxydendrum or sourwood, red oak and sweet gum or liquidambar. Gingko, yellow-wood, birches and tulip tree all take on a lustrous yellow. For contrast against a gray or white wall, use the rock spray or spreading cotoneasters, with long-lasting bright red berries. - 29857

How Biomass Boilers Can help You ?

By Scott Rodgers

Fossil fuels are non-renewable fuel sources that can not be reused or regenerated. So, they are a valuable source of energy, but if we want to use it in future, better ways will have to be devised so as to preserve them and to reduce the pollution caused by them.

No doubt, electricity saving is very important but to keep environment pollution free is also important. We should try to use a appliance which cause minimum possible harm to our surroundings and try to keep it healthy like a biomass boiler does.

Using biomass heating system is very advantageous as it produces heat and electricity by burning waste products such as agricultural, forest and industrial residues and waste, with a nominal effect on environment.

This kind of energy production has little effect on environment because carbon present in biomass is a part of natural carbon cycle, while carbon present in fossil fuels is not and increases the amount of carbon in environment when burned.

No doubt, biomass heating devices consume electricity, but it is much less than the amount consumed in other heaters. It is also more effective than other ones as it produces more temperature with same amount of fuel. Moreover, it does not harm environment in any way and enables you to be a part of healthy environment.

For a person who thinks of a way to save money, biomass heater is a good solution. It will save your money of maintaining a boiler and also in form of electricity charges. Such boilers use waste of human and plants to produce energy hence, contribute in recycling of resources.

In this competitive era it is quite difficult to decide from where to take the required boiler because many suppliers offer it with different schemes. In such scenario it is very important to wisely decide and take a cost effective and efficient boiler. Also think of all the advantages and disadvantages of biomass heater before buying it.

The aforesaid description shows that choosing this kind of boiler can really deduct your electricity bills and can save a lot in your pocket. Hence, such boilers are beneficial for you as well as environment. - 29857

Electrician's Safeguard

By Scott Rodgers

Electricity in a home is a basic requirement, so is it's maintenance. For this purpose we need a electrician. Now for our safeguard we should call a electrician who has good knowledge in the field. The selection of electrician should be done very cautiously.

The main heart of connection is wire. Hence, using wire of appropriate diameter is must to assure proper flow of current. If the electrician uses a small diameter wire and flow of current is high, the wire will not be able to bear the load. It could result in sparks or fire. So care must be taken by electrician in choosing the wire size according to the amount of current flow.

Electric switches often gets loose by continuous use and starts sparking. Periodic checks and maintenance of it is very important to avoid all the inept consequences.

During cables fixing, the wires should be properly checked against any rip. The cable should be sealed in a thick tube or anything like that to protect it from external cuts or damage.

The master point for all wires from where all the defects are checked, and this region is very sensitive so extra care is required for protecting it. Total load that this point can handle is limited and depend on some criteria. So electricians should take care not to go beyond that limit to avoid its adverse effects.

While making connections, electricians need to take care of wiring the most. They should use wires of appropriate length. The length should be such that it solves our purpose completely. Using short wires may cause a hazard.

Best way to protect the connection is to make underground connections. This is the safest form of wiring, away from all the side effects. But the wire should be examined very precisely as re- installation or repairing of wires in this case would be very costly. Moreover, this kind of connections can not be checked again and again.

All electricians are supposed to have a basic knowledge of safeguards mentioned above. We should examine the electrician to have at least the basic knowledge to assure the security of work done by him. - 29857

How To Unblock A Drain Pipe With The Help Of A Plumber's Snake Tool ?

By Scott Rodgers

The frequently occurring problem of clogged drains can be diagnosed and fixed if proper measures are adopted from the very onset. Instead of making way for a plumber straightaway, you can yourself unclog the drainage pipe and the associated plumbing component by making use of some basic plumbing tools.

When it comes to the problem of clogged drains and traps, the basic plumbing tools such as plungers and augers (plumber' snake) can save the day for you. Though it is always a better idea to employ an appropriate plumber's snake prior to a plunger as the plungers normally disturb the sanitation of the toilet to a large extent.

A plumbing drain snake is a plumbing device that is used to unblock the drainage pipes, traps, vents etc. It comprises of a tightly wound metal cable that reaches out to an underlying clog in a particular pipe. One end of the cable has an arm to handle the tool well. The other end of the cable is the business end that is inserted into the affected drainage or vent to explore the clogs.

There are two types of plumber's snake that are employed in plumbing assignments, the drain snakes and the closet snakes. The drain snakes owing to their lengthy metal cable and efficiency, are the popular choice of the plumbers whereas the closet snakes (or closet augers) possess a shorter metal cable in order to locate the clogs lying at a moderate depth.

Put on the gloves and make sure that the gloves have a non-slippery grip which helps in holding the snake firmly. Kick off the campaign by inserting the corkscrew end of the tool into the affected pipe, vent or trap. Keep pushing the snake into the pipe until it stops turning any further. While the snake is pushed in, keep turning the crank in a clockwise direction to enhance the penetration of the snake tool.

Once the snake stops turning any further, pull it out and clean off the soil and foreign materials accumulated on it's head.

Insert the snake into the pipe again and keep repeating the same until the flow of water is eased in the pipe.

Make sure that the supervision of an expert is always in tact to handle the complications arising in the project. - 29857
